Explore Government Incentives for Commercial Solar & Battery Projects
Investing in renewable energy is more than reducing electricity costs, it’s about preparing your business for the future. Government incentive programs can help eligible businesses reduce the upfront cost of installing commercial solar and battery systems, making renewable energy more accessible than ever.
At Standout Solar, we stay informed about federal and state energy initiatives so we can help businesses understand the incentives, rebates, and funding opportunities that may be available. From certificate schemes to emerging battery programs, our team can guide you through the options and help determine what may apply to your project.
Why Government Incentives Matter
Supporting Businesses Through the Energy Transition
Governments across Australia continue to invest in renewable energy initiatives to help businesses reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the electricity network.
These programs are designed to encourage the adoption of renewable energy technologies while supporting businesses that want to lower operating costs and improve long-term energy resilience.
As incentive programs evolve, understanding what’s available and whether your business qualifies—can make a significant difference when planning your investment.
Current Commercial Incentives
Financial Support That May Be Available
Depending on your business, project size, and location, you may be eligible for one or more renewable energy incentive programs.
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)
Eligible smaller commercial solar systems may benefit from the Australian Government’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). STCs provide an upfront financial benefit that can help reduce the initial cost of eligible solar installations.
Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs)
Larger renewable energy systems may qualify under the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET). Eligible projects can create Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), which may provide additional financial value depending on the project and market conditions.
State & Territory Programs
Many states and territories offer grants, rebates, low-interest loans, or other renewable energy initiatives for eligible businesses. Available programs vary by location and are updated regularly.
Commercial Battery Incentives
Battery incentive programs continue to evolve across Australia. Businesses installing eligible battery storage systems may be able to access support through current or future government initiatives, depending on location and program requirements.

NSW Commercial Battery Incentive
Preparing for the Next Generation of Commercial Battery Storage
The NSW Government has announced a proposed Commercial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) incentive under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), with the program expected to commence from 1 September 2026.
The incentive is expected to provide upfront financial support for eligible commercial battery installations through Peak Reduction Certificates (PRCs). These certificates are created by Accredited Certificate Providers, with the value generally passed on to eligible customers as an upfront discount on the installation cost.
While final program details and eligibility requirements are still being confirmed, businesses can begin preparing now by assessing their energy needs and identifying suitable battery opportunities.
Important:
The Commercial BESS incentive is expected to commence from 1 September 2026. Eligibility, incentive values, and program requirements remain subject to the NSW Government’s final guidelines.
Could Your Business Benefit?
Businesses may benefit most from commercial battery storage if they:
- Have high electricity consumption
- Pay significant demand charges
- Already operate a commercial solar system
- Are planning to install EV charging infrastructure
- Want to maximise solar self-consumption
- Are looking to improve energy resilience
- Want greater control over future energy costs
Every business is different, so suitability depends on your energy profile, operations, and project objectives.
